MEDICAL HISTORY
The medical history with the help of the parents not only gives us information regarding the general health of the child, but can also assist us in finding possible damaging habits that the child has that can directly affect the mouth cavity (e.g. thumb sucking, dietary habits etc.)
For teenagers there are a wider range of questions, because of the fast changes to the body, the psychological and emotional changes that are happening, that often cause/effect problems in the mouth. A lot of the questions are asked directly to the teenagers as it is a critical time when they can adopt behaviours that can be dangerous to their oral hygiene such as smoking, alcohol, bad dietary habits and un-safe sexual activities.
For teenagers there is a specialized psychology approach, and for the above questions the parents will not be present so that they can open up easier and give us honest answers.
All of the information that is given in the medical history is recorded and the findings are taken into account during the clinical exam.

Clinical Exam:
During the clinical exam we reveal the needs for the child:
- on a preventative level:
fluorosis / covering holes and slits / improving oral hygiene / dealing with the beginnings of caries / changing dietary habits / sport mouthguard construction where necessary / orthodontic devices for space holding
- on a healing level:
treating caries / treating gum disease / orthodontic therapy / dealing with damage/injury
diagnosis for children with peridontal and orthondontal problems
X-ray Checks:
It is often necessary for there to be an x-ray check to complete a diagnosis.
At the VSmile Piraeus dental clinic, the dentist uses a high-definition digital intraoral x-ray, so that should child require it, the dose of radiation is minimal.
Once the diagnostic exam is completed, all of ther requirements for the child are noted, and the parents are informed of the program required for preventative measures or therapy where needed.
