What are sealants:
Sealants are a layer of protection for you teeth made from liquid resin, that is placed on the teeth in order to protect them from tooth decay.
Indications:
Sealants are placed on the deep and narrow grooves of the teeth, their job is to prevent food entering these areas and therefore cause decay.
Sealants are indicated for every child, teenager or adult that has deep or narrow grooves on their chewing teeth. There are especially recommended with a history of plaque or decay, or for hcildren who ahve trouble brushing their teeth. In these cases sealants are placed on milk teeth and permanent teeth.
Placement:
In order to place sealants the teeth do not require any grinding. The liquid resin is placed by the dentist on the teeth and sets with the help of a curing lamp.
At the Piraeus VSmile dentist, we have the lquid resin in numerous colours e.g. transparent, white, blue, green and this is something that the children like. The child can choose whichever colour they want and there is no medical difference only cosmetic.
Safety:
Sealants are completely safe and there are no side effects after their application. This is the reason they are readily available as a way to prevent tooth decay, and suggested by dentists and paediatric dentists and pediatricians.
How long do they last:
Sealants last from between 3 to 5 years. It is entirely possible that they wear away sooner, as the dimensions of the children's teeth change as they grow. If the sealnts go, they should be replaced.
