One of the main components of successful dental treatments, is a good relationship between the dentist and the patient.

The patient, during the session , must be able to communicate with the dentist to let them know if they are feeling ok, if they are hurting, if they are getting tired etc. Most of the time this is possible with the use of signals, when the patient has their mouth open and is unable to speak.

So in order for there to be a level of communication during the dental work, a code of international hand signals was created for the patient to communicate with the dentist.
