What a mother eats during pregnancy, affects the growth of the embruo and as such the development of their teeth. Sufficient nutrients, especially vitamins A, C and D, proteins, calcium and phosphate are all necesary. Brocolli is a good example of a food that every pregnant woman should include in their diet. Broccoli is a natural shield for your teeth because it has high levels of calcium and vitamins A and C.
Dairy products are very valuable during pregnancy as the needs for calcium are much higher than usual. However, the old saying that the baby 'takes' calcium from the mum's teeth, is not true! The pregnant mother needs to know that the calcium the baby needs comes from the foods they eat and not from the mum's teeth. In cases where there is not enough calcium in the foods consumed and not supplement is taken, that the body automatically takes calicum from the body's deposits which are in the bones.
A good way to reduce the feeling of hunger that many pregnant ladies experience, that also helps with oral hygiene, is the consumption of apples. Apples help prevent plaque building up on teeth and massage the gums.
The danger of tooth decay during pregnancy can be reduced by avoiding consumption of foods that contain sugar and to increase the consumption of water. Water helps reduce dry mouth and is the basic factor in the reduction of tooth decay.
