MOUTHGUARDS FOR BRUXISM

They are individually designed to fit the teeth (usually the upper teeth) of the patient, and are worn during the night whilst the patient is sleeping. The aim of the mouthguard is to allow the muscles to relax and to relieve the temporomandibular joint.

The mouthgaurds are made by the dentist upon obtaining an imprint of the teeth. The material that is used is softer than the teeth and as such protects the teeth from wearing.

For the correct use of the mouthguard, it should be checked every two months by the dentist and altered if necessary.

At the VSmile dentist in Piraeus, we suggest that in combination with the mouthguard the patient also does physiotherapy exercise for the temporomandibular joint for the best results.
