Toothpaste with Fluoride:
Fluoride toothpastes help with the prevention of decay, but also with the removal of dental plaque that leads to peridontal diseases. Children under 2 can use toothpaste with 250-500ppmF, from 2 to 8 years with 1000 ppmF and from 7 years up 1450-1500ppmF.
At the VSmile Piraeus dental clinic we recommend: The amount of flouride toothpaste the children use at each brushing should be smaller than the size of a pea, and that until 6 years old tooth brushing should be under the watch of parents so that the child is not swallowing large amounts of toothpaste. In cases where a high level of flouride is consumed small white sports appear on the teeth (tooth fluorosis)
Fluoride Mouthwashes:
Fluoride mouthwashes are recommended to persons over 8 years that have a predisposition for tooth decay and as a replacement for the sodium fluoride lozenges that are given to children from 6 months to 8 years.
Fluoride Gels and Varnishes:
Fluoride gels and varnishes are applied at the dental clinic or at home with a prescription from the dentist.
