DENTAL IMPLANTS : POST SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS
The VSmile dentist and oral surgeon suggest the following on the day of the implant placements and immediately after:
BLEEDING:
- Do not spit and do not wash out the wound on the day of the surgery
- Do not worry if you see some blood in the saliva in the first 24hrs
SWELLING:
There is likely to be some swelling after surgery.
To reduce the swelling you can place cold compresses on the outside of the face adjacent to where the internal wound is (for example you can use ice cubes wrapped in a thin towel every 10mins for 2-3 hours after leaving the surgery)
PAIN:
Follow the medication given on your prescription or contact us.
Do not take aspriin (it increases the bleeding)
ANTIBIOTICS:
You will take antibiotics only if recommended by us, and with our recommended dosage
FOOD:
On the day of the surgery and for 1 week after:
Avoid:
- hot, hard and spicy foods
- nuts and anything containing nuts
- chewing gum
- alcohol
Prefer:
- cold and wet food, especially yoghurt, milk and juices
- soft foods, like spaghetti, beans and legumes
SMOKING:
Don't smoke on the day of the surgery, and reduce it as much as possible over the following days. The hot smoke from the cigarette, the tar and the nicotin that are in cigarette damage the healing process.
