What is the aim of whitening?
Whitening is a safe and painless technique, that aims to make the teeth look whiter and to even any different colour tones in the teeth. Whitening can only be done on natural teeth, Fillings, crowns, bridges and any other type of prosthetic teeth do not change colour during whitening.
With whitening teeth can become quite a few tones whiter. At the VSmile dentist we support the natural smile that shows the face and as such do not recommend over whitening. With this thought in mind, the teet do not end up looking "fake" like Hoolywood smiles, but harmonize with the skin adn the rest of the face's characteristics.

What are the indications for whitening?
Whitening is very effective in the following circumstances:
- For teeth that are discoloured from smoking, food colourings, patients taking tetracycline, excessive fluoride absorption, use of chlorhexidine
- Changes in the colour of teeth due to ageing
- Changes in the colour of the teeth due to injury or necrosis
When whitening is done under to guidance of a dentist it is a completely safe process, that doesn't cause any irritation. However, as with most dental procedures, there are some limitations, and in some cases whitening cannot be undertaken by the patient (see contraindications for whitening)
What does the whitening procedure entail?
The whitening process can be done either at the dental clinic or in your own home (see whitening at the dentist, home whitening). At the VSmile Piraeus dental clinic we will assist you in making the most suitable choice to meet your needs.
How long does whitening last?
The effects of whitening can last up to a year, providing that patient does not use substances and eat foods with strong colours on a regular basis.In these cases that process needs to be repeated in accordance with the needs of the patient.
