PRACTICAL ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH BRUXISM
The VSmile dentist in Piraeus, gives the following advice to assist pateints with bruxism in dealing with the pain and other symptoms associated with the problem.
- Relax for 1 minute every morning and night, relaxing your shoulders and saying the 'em' sound repeatedly
- Avoid sudden movements with the lower jaw that can cause pain
- Don't open the jaw completely whilst yawning
- Don't allow your top and bottom teeth to touch during the day, only do so whilst eating
- Chew a soft chewing gum (without sugar) for 5 minutes each morning and 5 minutes each night. The chewing actions helps streghten the muscles
- Avoid hard foods, and hard chewing gum
- Smile as much as possible (smiling and laughing exercise the face muscles).
- Learn relaxation techniques and reduce stress
